Hello everyone, this is Nagata.
It’s finally warming up, and I hope you’re enjoying this comfortable season wherever you are.
Here at master-piece, our 2025 Spring/Summer collection has started to arrive. This season, aside from updates to existing series, we’ve developed four key themes: collaborations, high-performance fabrics, waterproof leather, and a mix of new and classic outdoor inspirations. Today, I’d like to introduce the first of those.
There are many elements to consider when designing a bag—fabrics, leathers, parts, details, functionality—but this particular series focuses on one core aspect: the fabric itself.
Developing a fabric takes time: the yarn type, thickness, weave structure, dyeing, and finishing. For bags, we consider qualities like strength, durability, lightness, and water repellency/resistance. Yarn denier and weave affect strength and aesthetics, but strong yarn can also support more complex weaves like jacquard, not just plain weaves which are generally known for higher abrasion resistance.
For this series, we chose “Nylon 66”—a standard in our CORDURA®-based products. (Nylon numbers refer to the number of carbon atoms in the polymer, but we’ll skip the chemistry.) In short, Nylon 66 is highly durable and ideal for bags.
We used 70d for the warp and 210d for the weft—considered fine yarns at master-piece—woven into a high-density twill. To properly dye this high-density nylon, we used high-pressure jigger dyeing.
*Jigger dyeing is a method where fabric is rolled back and forth in dye baths to ensure uniform penetration—especially effective for high-density fabrics.
After dyeing, the fabric is finished with master-piece’s proprietary “m-coat” water-repellent treatment. While we can’t go into technical details due to NDAs, we can say this technology is superior in both water repellency and abrasion durability. The repellency agent is structurally fixed on the fiber surface, unlike conventional coatings that weaken over time.
The result? Even after 100 washes, this fabric achieves Grade 4 on the Bundesmann water repellency test—a far more demanding standard than the typical JIS-L1092 spray test, where most water-repellent fabrics only score around Grade 2.

As special as that is, we didn’t stop there. The reverse side is coated with Breathatec®, a high-performance waterproof/breathable membrane from Toray’s Cortechs division. This polyurethane-based coating offers water resistance, moisture permeability, and low condensation—and is made with polycarbonate polyurethane for exceptional durability.
*Polycarbonate (PC) is a thermoplastic known for its clarity and impact resistance.
Together, these elements create a specialty fabric combining strength, durability, water repellency, waterproofing, and breathability.
But believe it or not, this project began back in 2023. With 2024 marking master-piece’s 30th anniversary, we focused on highlighting our history of using CORDURA® nylon in original 3-layer fabrics. One of our anniversary series, “Black Crazy”, featured an extraordinary mix of five custom 3-layer fabrics in one bag—an idea we never thought we’d pull off. So we postponed launching this new fabric until the right moment.

master-piece has long been known for bold color blocking, mixed materials, and decorative designs—even on business bags. Newer customers might be more familiar with our cleaner branding and versatile biz-casual series, but over the past 30 years, we’ve constantly evolved with the times.
Now in our 31st year, we felt it was time to challenge ourselves by creating something we hadn’t dared to do before—a super simple design series.
Designed to suit both business and casual settings, the “Result Series” features an understated silhouette that may not even be recognized as master-piece at first glance. But under the hood, it’s built with:
- Our original high-performance fabric
- Waterproof leather processed with 3M’s SCOTCHGARD®
- WATER-R coil zippers from YKK for water resistance, smooth operation, and durability
- Lightweight resin parts
- A camel-colored lining for visibility and stain resistance—our signature interior color
The Result Series is made to last, stay reliable, and never go out of style.

Available in black, khaki, and navy—all basic, but carefully formulated colors:
- Black: Deeper and glossier than usual—our reliable all-star
- Navy: Vibrant yet sophisticated—a refined take on this staple
- Khaki: Inspired by a faded sage green from the iconic MA-1 1st model flight jacket—a personal favorite
At our flagship stores, you can try water-repellency tests with fabric samples and witness the impressive performance firsthand.

Each item includes tags certifying the use of m-coat, Breathatec®, and SCOTCHGARD® technologies.
The long-awaited Result Series is finally here. Check it out at our flagship stores, authorized retailers, or our online store.
Thank you for reading to the end.
